Tasks and Technology: The Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence on the Labour Market in Pakistan, Asian Development Bank, Forthcoming
This paper studies the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the labour market in Pakistan, using data on 330,000 job vacancies and 2.8 million jobseekers from 2020 to 2025. We apply natural language processing techniques to map job tasks to the O*NET taxonomy and measure exposure to generative AI. This approach is more tailored to the task content of occupations in Pakistan. Using these measures, we examine how the introduction of public-use generative AI affected labor demand and supply using a difference-in-differences approach.
The Consequences of Equity without Efficiency: Evidence from the Zimbabwe Fast-Track Land Reforms, World Bank, Forthcoming
This paper examines the impact of Zimbabwe’s Fast-Track Land Reform Program (FTLRP) using newly assembled geo-spatial and household data. Using a difference-in-differences design, we find sharp declines in production, yields, and household wealth in resettled areas relative to unaffected communal regions. Our results indicate that, despite its redistributive goals, the FTLRP reduced agricultural efficiency and failed to improve socio-economic outcomes.
Seven Years of Resilience: Assessing the Well-being of the Displaced Rohingya Population and Their Hosts in Bangladesh, World Bank, Forthcoming
This report examines the evolving conditions of the Displaced Rohingya Population (DRP) and their Bangladeshi hosts, drawing on data from the Cox’s Bazar Panel Survey (CBPS) in 2019, 2023 and 2025. In addition, it explores the perceptions of the host community and the DRP's intentions regarding their return to Myanmar.
Two Settlements, Two Diverging Paths : Jobs and Labor Market Outcomes for the Displaced Rohingya Population - Analysis Based on The Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char Panel Surveys, World Bank, July 2025 [Link]
This report presents a comparative analysis of labor market outcomes for the Displaced Rohingya Population (DRP) in two distinct settlement contexts in Bangladesh: the long established camps of Cox’s Bazar and the more recently developed, geographically isolated site of Bhasan Char. Drawing on harmonized data from the 2022 Bhasan Char survey and the 2023 Cox’s Bazar Panel Survey (CBPS), the analysis highlights how location, legal constraints, and program design shape employment opportunities and economic self-reliance for displaced populations.

Investing in Africa's Future: Assessing Strategies for Human Capital Development, Unicef, January 2025 [Link]
This blog was written to inform UNICEF’s contributions to Africa’s development agenda, particularly the African Union Agenda for Children 2040 and the African Union Agenda 2063. It explores the progress and challenges for human capital development, in the context of a demographic transition to a younger, more dynamic workforce in Africa. It also summarises the evidence on early childhood interventions, quality schooling, and social protection that can be leveraged to shape the long-term outcomes of children and youth on the continent.
